Update | Taiwan’s top official handling ties with mainland quits over ‘spying’ row
Wang Yu-chi steps down after prosecutors reject his allegations that his former deputy had handed classified information to Beijing

The head of the government body in Taiwan that oversees policy towards the mainland has resigned over a spying row.
Wang Yu-chi, the chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, quit after prosecutors rejected his allegations that his former deputy had leaked classified information to the mainland authorities in Beijing.
The Taipei Prosecutors Office said on Tuesday there was no evidence to back up the allegations made against Chang Hsien-yao.
Chang had strongly denied the claims.
Wang told a press conference on Tuesday that he respected the prosecutors’ decision, but he did not agree with their findings.
“I feel very disappointed and feel it’s unacceptable that the prosecutors will not indict him, especially after we’d all done our best to provide the necessary information to the prosecutors to prove his wrongdoing,” he said.
