Thieves steal bikes of Chinese world track cycling team after championships in France

Three bicycles worth an estimated €27,000 (about HK$237,000) belonging to the Chinese world track cycling team have been stolen from a hotel car park near Paris, say French police.

The theft took place overnight on Sunday from the van where the bikes, which were still boxed up, were being stored in preparation for the flight home.

The back door of the van had been forced.

“We will have to see if the CCTV camera images are clear enough,” a police source said.

The theft came only hours after the climax to the five-day UCI Track Cycling World Cup held in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, near Paris which saw China’s Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi win gold in the women’s team sprint and Zhong also win bronze in the women’s sprint.
