The star of a Chinese reality television show turned detective to use his impressive observational skills to help police find the suspect in a hit-and-run traffic accident that had baffled them for eight months, mainland media reports. Wang Yuheng, from Beijing, attracted the attention of police in Shandong province in December after they saw him on The Brain, the Xian Evening News reported on Wednesday. WATCH: Wang Yuheng appears on The Brain The talent show – a version of a programme from Germany called Super Brain – features contestants with special skills or exceptional brainpower who must carry out challenging tasks. The police asked Wang to try to help them find the culprit in the accident, which took place in Shandong last April. The report did not give further details about where the accident took place, who was injured, and how serious the accident was. Poor-quality images captured by traffic surveillance cameras in Shandong at the time of the accident meant police were unable to identify the vehicle involved. However, Wang looked at the low-resolution photographs and managed to clearly identify not only the model of car involved, but also details about the driver. A suspect in the case was arrested in March. Wang told police that fog lights on the car and a broken window suggested to him a particular make of car. The driver appeared to be an experienced motorist, but had been driving after drinking more than the legal limit, Wang said. He also said the driver did not stop to check on his victim after the accident happened. Instead he had immediately left the scene. The motorist seemed to know how to avoid the surveillance cameras, Wang said. This suggested that he was probably a local person, who knew his way around the area very well. Wang is now helping the police with another case, involving a robbery.
