The southern Chinese city of Shenzhen will step up border controls to stop the spread of the coronavirus but will also continue to funnel resources to neighbouring Hong Kong as it grapples with a surge in cases.
Addressing a municipal pandemic control meeting on Saturday night, Wang Weizhong, Guangdong governor and Shenzhen Communist Party chief, said the city had to safeguard the border from imported infections.
“[We have to] closely monitor all points of entry ... as well as refine testing procedures to improve our joint efforts to combat the pandemic with Hong Kong,” Wang was quoted by the Shenzhen government website as saying.

“We will resolutely cut off all sources of imported infections.”
He urged Shenzhen to work with neighbouring cities to combat any illegal border crossing and smuggling activities.
