At least 16 people were killed in a fire at a shopping centre in China’s southwestern Sichuan province on Wednesday.

The blaze broke out inside a 14-storey building in a hi-tech zone in Zigong city, according to Chinese state media.

Initial investigations showed construction work may have sparked the fire, but further investigations were still under way.
