Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea would seem an unlikely place for a concert, but renowned performer Song Zuying was sent there by the People’s Liberation Army to boost morale among the troops. China has built a number of artificial islands with military facilities in the disputed waters, raising concerns in the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan, who also lay claim to the area. Photographers from China News Service and AFP captured these pictures of Song entertaining the troops.
