China and India will move to end their weeks-long border stand-off when their senior military leaders hold talks on Saturday that observers are predicting will end positively.
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed the meeting between senior Indian and Chinese military leaders, despite both sides sending more troops to the front line.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday that China’s position on the border dispute was to defend national sovereignty and security while maintaining peace and stability.

“Presently the communication between China and India has been smooth with well-functioning channels,” he said in Beijing.

He stressed that the situation was “stable and controllable”, with “no need for involvement of any third party”, rejecting an offer by the United States to mediate in the dispute.
