Taiwan targets disenchanted central Europe in investment drive
- A delegation from the island will visit Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania as annoyance with Beijing grows in the region
- The group will include government officials and business leaders from the IT, precision machinery and electric car sectors

Taipei will send a delegation to central and eastern Europe to bolster ties as it seeks to capitalise on the growing annoyance and economic disappointment of some countries towards mainland China.
The 65-member delegation will make stops in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania next month to explore possibilities for investment and economic cooperation, according to the Taiwanese foreign ministry.
Remus Chen, head of the ministry’s European affairs department, said the delegation would be led by Kung Ming-hsin, head of the island’s National Development Council, and have meetings with government officials and business leaders to discuss investment and economic cooperation.
“Our relations with central and eastern European countries have continued to deepen in recent years,” Chen said on Tuesday.
“Notably Taiwan and Lithuania have announced plans to set up representative offices later this year, which will further help bolster Taiwan’s links with central and eastern European countries.”
