A former Chinese vice-premier has said the US and China should cooperate on technological advancements and global governance.
Speaking at an online conference on US-China relations on Wednesday, Zeng Peiyan, who was vice-premier from 2003 to 2008 and a top economic policymaker in Beijing, blamed Washington for politicising the topic.
“I hope the US can adopt a correct view in technology cooperation, open up their garden, break the walls, stop limiting and suppressing Chinese tech companies, and work with China for technological advancements,” Zeng said.

He added that the US and China should cooperate on global governance, pandemic control, climate change and open up further for economic cooperation.
Zeng spoke at the event co-hosted by the China-United States Exchange Foundation and the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges, a Beijing-based think tank that he chairs. He also urged the US to respect China’s social system and path for development.
“The US has always been speaking from a position of strength, such traditional hegemonic ideas should be thrown in the landfill,” he said.
