Amid a deepening ideological and geopolitical divide, joint pledges by Chinese and American leaders to promote cooperation on transnational challenges have raised hopes for the restoration of climate talks and other official dialogue Beijing halted three months ago.

But with few concrete deliverables from the first in-person meeting between President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden since the latter took office last year, how soon those talks will resume will depend on the strength of their new rapport, according to observers.
Pundits said they were generally relieved to see the warmer-than-usual tone displayed by both leaders during three hours of talks on Monday on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

Asian stocks in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo also climbed on Tuesday amid prospects of reduced US-China tensions.
