Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha “received the book with joy” as he welcomed Xi for a state visit in November, the party mouthpiece People’s Daily reported. He said he wished every member of his cabinet owned the series of books so they could give it a “serious read”.
Xi’s pride in his approach to governance was on full display on Tuesday in a speech to cadres on the success of China’s modernisation when compared with the West’s.
Analysts said it signalled Beijing’s confidence and determination to consolidate its status as a global leader, especially for developing countries, amid intense geopolitical tensions with the United States.
They said the speech, more explicit than previous similar remarks, was set to spark further scepticism among Washington and its allies about China’s intentions to reshape the world order.
“Chinese style of modernisation has debunked the myth that modernisation means westernisation,” Xi said on Tuesday. “The Chinese model showcased a different paradigm for developing countries to achieve modernisation.”
