Exclusive | China and Spain in talks for PM Pedro Sanchez to visit Beijing – again
Sanchez is expected to become the latest Western leader to go to the Chinese capital as the US’ policies prompt a reassessment

Miguel Otero-Iglesias, a senior analyst at the Madrid-based Elcano Royal Institute, said the prime minister had suggested in the past that visits to China should be an annual event.
“[Sanchez] said before that he wanted to go to China every year because I think he believes that China is important and that high-level visits are important to consolidate the relationship,” Otero-Iglesias said.
Madrid and Beijing established diplomatic relations in 1973 and have long maintained engagement despite tension between the European Union and China in recent years over the Russian invasion of Ukraine and accusations of Chinese companies dumping products in European markets.
