The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has warned against “third party” involvement in the China-India border dispute as the United States and India hold joint military drills near the contested border.
China firmly opposes any third-party meddling in the China-India border issue, said Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defence, during a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

The remarks came as US and Indian special forces held joint drills in India’s northern state of Himachal Pradesh, which started on August 8.

The two forces will hold another joint exercise from October 18 to 31 in Auli in the Indian state of Uttarakhand – less than 100km (62 miles) from the disputed China-India border.

Tensions between Beijing and Washington are simmering over Taiwan, with the PLA staging unprecedented military drills around the island in retaliation for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit earlier this month.

Soon after Pelosi’s trip, Beijing suspended a series of defence dialogues with the United States.

Tan said the China-India border issue was a matter between the two countries. Both sides have maintained effective communications at all levels and agreed to properly handle the situation through bilateral dialogues.
