China calls for US ‘sincerity’ on Iran, warns of Japan’s ‘dangerous’ nuclear ambitions
Beijing also outlines progress in disarmament and its long-standing policies in first such report since 2021
China in its latest Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) report has called on the United States to show “sincerity” in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue while warning about Japan’s discussions on possessing nuclear weapons.
The national report on the implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was made public online by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
According to the report, military strikes on Iran by the US and Israel last June and this February “seriously violated international law and the purposes of the UN Charter”.
It singled out America’s 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – more commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal – as the “root cause” of the current tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear issue.
