Luxury hotels in the Wudang Mountains in central China, famous for the area’s Taoist temples and monasteries, have suffered losses due to a sharp drop in official receptions amid the county’s crackdown on extravagant spending by government officials, state-run media reported.

A general manager at the Wudangshan Jianguo Hotel said it had hosted only six meetings since the beginning of this year and none of them was a government-related event, Xinhua reported.

The five-star resort was designed to host government meetings, manager Wang Changjun was quoted as saying.

It hosted 400 such events in 2012, but the number fell to 90 the following year when the government crackdown on corruption and excessive official spending began.

Wudangshan Hotel, a site used by the local government for official receptions, has suffered losses for two years, the report said.
