An 18-year-old girl from northern China, who has the best grades in her school, is barred from taking the national university entrance exam because she is the daughter of migrant workers and doesn’t have an official residence permit for the city where she lives, according to a news website report.

He Yaxin has had to study at private schools for years in various cities where her parents were based because she was not eligible to enrol at local state schools, Dahe.cn reported.

She now lives in Zhuozhou in Hebei province and says her ambition is to study at university.

Her parents have travelled to their hometown of Zhoukou in Henan province more than 30 times to try to solve the problem, but to no avail, the report said.
