China’s five-year plan review to confirm Communist Party Central Committee expulsions
Fifth Plenum to confirm removal of Ling Jihua, once adviser to ex-president Hu Jintao and vice-chairman of the National Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference

The review of China’s lastest five-year plan – a holdover from the Soviet-style centrally planned economy providing a blueprint setting out initiatives in key economic and development initiatives – will also involve important changes in Communist Party personnel.
The Fifth Plenum of the Chinese Communist Party’s 18th Central Committee, a four-day meeting that started on Monday and runs until Thursday, and will see members discuss the plan.
At last October’s Fourth Plenum three full members of the committee were expelled and their places were taken by alternate members. Also three other alternate members were expelled.
This week’s plenum will see 201 members and 157 alternate members review the plan.
Since President Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, his relentless anti-corruption campaign has ensnared 18 committee members, including 11 alternate members. This was more than the total number of officials ousted from the committee during the 20 years prior to 2012, Chinese media company Caixin reported.
