Descendants of two former top leaders in China have risen in their political careers, with one of them praised for his “low-profile” working style, according to official Chinese media reports.
Hu Haifeng, 44, son of former president Hu Jintao, was appointed vice-mayor of the city of Jiaxing in eastern Zhejiang province on Friday.

The change in role came two years after he was named the secretary of the city’s legal and political affairs committee, Jiaxing Daily, the city’s mouthpiece, ­reported.
Hu was also appointed the city’s acting mayor, as former mayor Lin Jiandong resigned, the report said.
Another top leader’s descendant, Deng Zhuodi, 31, grandson of late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping, became one of the deputy party secretaries of Pingguo county in southern Guangxi province.
Before this, he was a deputy head of the county government, according to a report carried by Pingguo News, a local TV station’s social media account.
Deng was also identified as party secretary of Xinan township – a position he assumed in June 2014 – in the report about Pingguo officials attending a meeting aimed at promoting local tourism on March 15.
Deng, who has kept a low profile on the mainland, made headlines in May 2013 when he was named one of Pingguo’s deputy county governors, overseeing a reform drive.
Deng’s new role is seen as a promotion because a party job carries more weight and decision-making power than a government position at the same official rank, according to mainland media.
Beijing-based newspaper Beijing Youth Daily hailed Deng’s low-profile work style on Saturday in an article posted on its official WeChat account, a popular messenger app by Tencent.
It said Deng never gave interviews to the media and avoided publicity despite his family background. He did not even want local TV stations to run close-up shots of him and was reportedly “knowledgeable, modest and diligent”.

Deng graduated from law school at Duke University in the United States in 2008 and later worked for New York-based law firm White & Case.
Hu graduated with a degree in computer science from Beijing ­Jiaotong University and holds an executive MBA from Tsinghua University.
Hu’s profile photo and short biography is presently missing on the Jiaxing government’s official website, even though his name was listed among those of other officials. On the Pingguo county government’s website, Deng’s name was not on the page where the county’s officials were listed.
