The Dalai Lama is likely to spend the next day or two in a New Delhi hospital, where he is recovering from a chest infection.
His spokesman Tenzin Taklha said on Wednesday that the 83-year-old was under medication and feeling better.
The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader flew from Dharamsala for consultations with doctors in the Indian capital and was admitted to hospital on Tuesday.
The north Indian hill town has been his headquarters since he fled Tibet in 1959 following a failed uprising against Beijing’s rule.




Takhla said the Dalai Lama was feeling much better but had already cut down on travel in the past year for health reasons.
“Long-distance travelling is tiresome. Generally, he is in very good health. But he is taking precautions,” he said.
The Dalai Lama usually spends several months a year travelling around the world, teaching Buddhism and highlighting the struggle by Tibetans for greater freedom in China.
Last week in New Delhi, he addressed a conference of educators and students where he was asked a question relating to Tibet’s future with Beijing.
He reiterated that he was not seeking independence for Tibet, but would prefer a “reunion” with China under mutually acceptable terms.

Beijing says the Dalai Lama must reincarnate according to Chinese laws 

Tibetan Buddhism holds that when the Dalai Lama dies, his soul will be reincarnated in the body of a child.

The 11th Panchen Lama (in red robe), another important figure in Tibetan Buddhism, is recognized by the Communist Party but rejected by the Dalai Lama.
