Introduction

All times are Eastern Standard time (UTC-5, HKT-13).

Donald Trump told supporters at the White House on election night that he had won the US presidential election, despite votes still being counted in a handful of battleground states that will decide the outcome of his nail-biting race against Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

Projections of the election winner may not be known for several days while mail-in ballots are counted. Legal challenges to the ballot counting, which Trump has hinted at, could delay the result further.
