No new local cases in southern China coronavirus outbreak

The southern Chinese province of Guangdong reported no new confirmed local cases of Covid-19 for Saturday but preventive measures have been stepped up in the Pearl River Delta cities of Zhaoqing, Shenzhen and Dongguan.

Guangdong’s health commission said on Sunday the province reported 12 new imported confirmed cases and nine other asymptomatic imported cases for Saturday.

Of the confirmed imported cases, seven were passengers from South Africa heading to Shenzhen, two were from Cambodia and Liberia going to Foshan, another two were from Indonesia and Saudi Arabia going to Jiangmen and one was from Mali bound for Guangzhou.

As of Saturday, Guangdong had a total of 2,692 confirmed cases of Covid-19, of which 1,129 were imported.

Late on Sunday authorities in Dongguan reported one local confirmed case in the city – a close contact of a previously infected person.
