Eight workers died after a residential building under construction collapsed in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian on Friday.
The building in Dahu township came down at about midday, trapping 10 workers in the rubble.
Rescuers pulled all 10 alive from the wreckage at about 8pm but four died on the way to hospital and four others died after arrival. The two survivors are receiving medical treatment.
Local authorities were investigating the cause of the collapse.

The incident is the latest in a string of deadly building failures this year blamed on poor construction or lax safety standards.
Beijing has ordered local authorities to conduct a risk assessment as part of its efforts to maintain social stability.
On Monday, 17 people died when a budget hotel in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, collapsed.
Local media reports said the building had been renovated frequently in recent years.
On June 19, five people died after a residential building collapsed in Hunan province.
Six days earlier, more than 25 people were killed and more than 100 injured after a gas pipe exploded at a market in Shiyan in Hubei province.
With the centenary of the Communist Party just weeks away, President Xi Jinping told cadres to “stay vigilant and politically sensitive” to prevent accidents.


In May, authorities in the southern city of Shenzhen evacuated one of the country’s tallest skyscrapers, the SEG Plaza, after it shook over several days.
And in March last year, 29 people died in the city of Quanzhou in Fujian province when a hotel being used for coronavirus quarantine collapsed.
More than 1,000 firefighters, police officers and medical personnel had to be deployed to rescue the 71 people trapped at the site.
Since then, public worries have been raised as a big number of small and medium-sized hotels are converted from other buildings across the country.
