President Xi Jinping has said China’s road to rejuvenation will be a bumpy one in a New Year’s Eve message that warned the country faced many challenges.

“To realise the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will be no easy task like a walk in the park; it will not happen overnight, or through sheer fanfare,” he said.

“We must always keep a long-term perspective, remain mindful of potential risks, maintain strategic focus and determination, and ‘attain to the broad and great while addressing the delicate and minute’,” he said.

But Xi said no obstacles would be too big for the Communist Party, which celebrated its centenary in July.
