Knifeman kills 2 and injures 21 in attack at hospital in China’s Yunnan province
- A local villager has been identified as the main suspect following the incident in Zhenxiong country on Tuesday morning
- A man was later detained by five police officers who wrestled him to the ground, according to local media reports
At least two people were killed and 21 injured in a knife attack at a hospital in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan, police said on Tuesday.
The knife-wielding suspect was identified as a male villager from Poji, a town in Zhenxiong county, the local police bureau said.
So far no motive has been given for the attack, which took place shortly after 11.30am local time.
The suspect was detained later in the day by one uniformed police officer and four undercover officers, according to Guizhou Radio and TV Station’s official Weibo account.
The report said the man was carrying a bottle of water and some bread when he was wrestled to the ground by the officers.
Local police later said the man they detained was a 40-year-old identified only by the surname Li.
