Exclusive | New US consul general Julie Eadeh arrives in Hong Kong to take up post
Her appointment might ruffle feathers as Eadeh held meeting with protesters in 2019, but US confirms she is now in post

Julie Eadeh, the new US consul general for Hong Kong and Macau, has arrived in the city, the US diplomatic service said on Wednesday afternoon.
The US consulate general posted on social media that it was “pleased to announce that Julie Eadeh has arrived in Hong Kong, succeeding consul general Greg May, who left Hong Kong last month”.
The confirmation came just hours after the South China Morning Post reported her imminent arrival.
Diplomatic sources had earlier confirmed that this had been granted, with one saying: “Her agrément was granted recently, so she is set to come to Hong Kong”.
Top diplomats, including ambassadors and consuls general, need the host nation’s agrément, or permission by the receiving state, before they can perform their duties, according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
