A 49-year-old Chinese Covid-19 patient has been accused of breaching pandemic control measures by repeatedly using an office building lift unmasked, according to health authorities in the southern border city of Shenzhen.
The property management company, Rongchao Property Management, would also be held accountable, Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission inspector Lin Hancheng said on Sunday.
“The management of the building … did not advise or correct his behaviour, resulting in many others who took the lift being put at risk of infection,” Lin said.
Nationwide, there were 112 new local symptomatic cases, with more than a third – 48 cases – in Guangdong province, the National Health Commission reported on Sunday. Of these, 26 were in Shenzhen while the other 22 were in Dongguan.

There were also 127 new imported symptomatic cases, including 43 in Shanghai and 35 in Guangdong, and 100 new asymptomatic cases, of which 78 were imported.
Since the start of this month, Shenzhen has reported more than 200 imported cases from neighbouring Hong Kong, mostly cross-border truck drivers.

Local officials and health professionals have assured residents that the city will not see a similar surge as Hong Kong and is standing strong against the threat of the coronavirus pandemic.
