Covid-19 cases surge to 555 as China outbreaks continue, with Shandong hit hardest

China has reported 555 new confirmed Covid-19 cases reported, up from 528 a day earlier.
The National Health Commission said on Friday that 397 of the new infections were locally transmitted, with 121 in the northern province of Shandong. Jilin province, in the northeast, had 98 local cases.
The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed, stood at 814, compared with 586 the previous day.

There were no new deaths, leaving the death toll unchanged at 4,636. As of March 10, mainland China had confirmed 112,940 cases.
