Two people were killed and two others injured when they were thrown from a ride at an amusement park in Pingyang, Zhejiang province, at around noon on Friday, the first day of the May Day break.
The ride, called “The Scream”, at the Zhejiang Pingyang Amusement Park, began moving before all of the passengers had buckled in, Wenzhou news website 66wz.com reported. At least four people were thrown from the ride from about three metres above the ground.
A Sohu report said police had detained the owner of the park.
Photos uploaded online showed injured people lying on the ground next to a tube-shaped machine.
Police had cordoned off the area and were investigating, according to the website.
The amusement park has 17 rides and covers about 2.5 hectares.
