Beijing police released surveillance footage of the so-called Fast and Furious road race late last month involving two young drivers of sports cars worth millions of yuan, Beijing Television Station reports.
A green Lamborghini was wrecked and a Ferrari had its right door ripped off during an illegal road race in Beijing on April 12.
According to several sequences of video, the cars started from the same location and raced at between 180 and 215km/h.
The crash happened at about 10pm in the Datun Road Tunnel in Chaoyang district. The Lamborghini spun out of control and slammed into the right wall, while the Ferrari, following closely, also went into a skid.
A woman passenger, surnamed Xu, in the Lamborghini was treated in hospital for a fractured lumbar vertebra. The 21-year-old driver of the Lamborghini, surnamed Tang and a national pool champion as a teenager, first denied he was racing with the Ferrari and said he was running about 100 km/h.
Tang’s mother said he had bought the vehicle with money he had made on the stock market before the Lunar New Year, along with a smaller contribution from his father.
