Thirty-five people died yesterday when a bus plunged off a cliff in China, in the latest deadly traffic incident in the country.

Twenty-five people were killed instantly when the bus fell in Shaanxi province. Ten others died in a hospital, the propaganda office of Chunhua county said in a statement.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported that the bus was carrying 46 passengers and that it fell into a ravine more than 30 metres deep near a forest park on Friday afternoon.

The injured were being treated and the cause of the crash was being investigated, said county authorities, who initially put the toll at 30.
