A Chinese entrepreneur who is a big Star Trek fan is treading new frontiers by building a company headquarters modelled after a spacecraft featured in the American science fiction series.

Liu Dejian, founder of online gaming company NetDragon Websoft, built the world’s only licensed Starship Enterprise replica in Fuzhou, Fujian province, after obtaining permission from American broadcasting network CBS to do so, local newspaper the Strait Herald reported.

The USS Enterprise was the main setting for various television series and films in the Star Trek franchise.

The replica – which spans three football fields and cost about 1 billion yuan (HK$1.27 billion) to build – features long metal slides from the third floor to the ground, and automatic sliding gates between working areas.

Aerial shots of the building have gone viral the world over.

Liu, 43, was one of the first people to develop China’s internet gaming market. He was ranked 320th on Forbes’ China Rich List in 2013.
