'It's OK, I can multitask,' says Chinese motorist on intravenous drip while using phone

Traffic police stopped motorist in Zhejiang province as he drove at 80km/h while holding iron pole supporting intravenous drip sticking out the window and talking on the phone

A Chinese motorist caught driving while he was having intravenous therapy and talking on the phone told traffic police it was not dangerous because he was good at multitasking.

Wenzhou police were on patrol in Zhejiang province, on June 20 when they saw the motorist, 40, driving at 80km/h while talking on his phone.

An iron pole supporting an intravenous drip was sticking out of the side window, the Today Morning Express reported.

Police discovered the needle providing the intravenous therapy was still stuck in the back of his right hand, which had been holding his phone.

His left hand had been holding the iron pole and also the car’s steering wheel.

The driver told police he was rushing to carry out some urgent matters so had left a health clinic providing the therapy before the infusion was complete, the newspaper reported.

He claimed that it was not dangerous for him to be driving at the time because he was good at multitasking.

However, he was fined 150 yuan (HK$190) and had four points deducted from his driving licence after being found guilty of dangerous driving and using a mobile phone while driving.
