Wang Sicong, the only son of China’s richest man and Dalian Wanda Group chairman Wang Jianlin, has found his way back into the media spotlight after he complained about an online shop leaking his personal data.

Wang, 27, posted on Weibo on Saturday that a computer shop on e-commerce platform JD.com had violated his privacy by posting his shopping information on the social networking platform, Tech.sina.com.cn reported.

A JD.com spokesman apologised to Wang on Weibo the next day, promising to strengthen management of its online stores to better protect customers’ privacy.

“Thank you, Mr Wang Sicong, for shopping at JD.com. We conducted an immediate investigation and found that staff members at the Shengfanzhizun DIY computer store had leaked your information,” the statement read. “We have since deleted your personal data and fined the store for violating its customer’s privacy. We apologise for the trouble caused to Mr Wang. JD.com has always stressed the importance of protecting our customers’ privacy and we will seriously punish those who violate our regulations.”

Wang – who serves as chairman of private investment firm Prometheus Capital, which is linked to his father’s property conglomerate – is known for being outspoken on social media. In February, state-run Xinhua ran a commentary condemning Wang’s comment that his top criteria for choosing a girlfriend was that she be buxom. The commentary said Wang’s comment objectified women and was borne out of arrogance because he was rich.
