Chinese families refuse to move out of homes after tower block encircled by huge flyover
Residents in Guangzhou embroiled in dispute over compensation payments to make way for project

Two families are refusing to move out of a block flats in southern China - even after developers built a busy flyover around their building, a newspaper reported.
The families are in dispute over the compensation offered for their homes to make way for the roads leading to the Zhoutouzui river tunnel in Guangzhou, the Southern Metropolis News said.
Seven people from the two families are still living in the complex.
One man, Guo Zhiming, was quoted as saying that the water and electricity was supplied as normal and there appeared to be no pressure to force them out, but the construction work had been noisy and inconvenient. Pile drivers had operated until 4am to finish the roads.
Guo’s wife, Meng Lixia, was quoted as saying she felt insecure at night after all the other households had moved out.
Guo said the families had started discussing compensation with the developers in 2011, but had yet to reach an agreement.
