A group of dancing grannies dressed in military uniform has put on a show in southwestern China to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the second world war.

The dancing troupe, consisting of 26 women with an average age of 60, pranced, rolled and even did the splits in a self-choreographed show in Chongqing, the China News Service reported.

They played the roles of army leaders, soldiers and wounded troops among the communist forces who fought the Japanese military.

The choreographer said her uncle had died in the war and she hoped the show would honour martyrs and remind people of the sacrifices made during the conflict.
