A wild panda has been caught on camera in southwestern China stealing honey from beehives.

The animal was filmed at a farm in Baoxing county near Ya’an in Sichuan province on Tuesday afternoon, the China News Service reported.

The adult panda showed no fear and continued tucking into the honey even after it was surrounded by a group of local government officials and journalists taking pictures, the report said.

Villagers said the animals normally stayed deep in the forest, but the panda may have been attracted by the sweet smell of the honey.

The protected animal left the following morning after it ate the contents of more than ten beehives.
