The Chinese advertisement seemed too good to be true: after just four days of training in minor cosmetic procedures in Beijing it would be possible for students to earn more than 100,000 yuan (HK$120,000)  a month.

Unfortunately the promises were too good to be true, The Beijing News reported.

New students who signed up for the courses at Jinghan Medical Cosmetology Training Centre told the newspaper teachers used them like guinea pigs during practical demonstrations during classes.

Some students suffered injuries after failed procedures, the newspaper said after carrying out an investigation.

The centre also encouraged students, who had no prior medical experience, to practise giving injections on one another during classes, the report claimed.

The students, who each paid 7,800 yuan for four days’ tuition, were also asked to hand over more money in order to receive various cosmetic procedures from their teachers during the classes.

The school, which reportedly had no business licence, would recruit about 20 students at a time – mostly young women in their 20s – with the promise that they would quickly earn fortunes after studying the cosmetic procedures, the newspaper said.

The report by The Beijing News did not include any comment from representatives at the centre about the allegations that had been made.

It also did not say whether the centre was now being investigated by the authorities.
