Toddler trapped in machinery for 40 minutes in another escalator accident in China
A toddler’s arms got caught in an escalator at a shopping mall for more than 40 minutes, the latest in a series of serious accidents involving the machines in China in recent months.
The girl tripped and fell at about 4pm on Tuesday while travelling with her grandmother on the escalator in Chongqing, the news website Qq.com reported.
Her hands and arms were caught in a gap at the side of the machine, the report said.
Shopping mall staff heard cries from the child and her grandmother and pushed a button to stop the escalator.
The girl, aged three, was later freed and only sustained minor injuries, the report said.
A woman was killed at a shopping centre in Jingzhou in central China in July after part of an escalator collapsed under her feet.
She managed to throw her two-year-old son to safety before she fell into the machinery.
A cleaner had to have a foot amputated after it got caught in an escalator in Shanghai in August.
