Show up or else...: Chinese woman holds hotel worker hostage after boyfriend stands her up

A 22-year-old woman was arrested in Zhengzhou, Henan,  on Saturday afternoon after she allegedly held a female hotel employee captive for more than an hour because her boyfriend did not show up for a date, news portal Dahe.cn reports.

Armed police stormed the hotel at around12.30pm as the woman held the employee hostage with a fruit knife, the report said.

Staff said the woman checked into the hotel on Saturday morning and soon started making repeated calls to reception for various items, from toothpaste to toilet paper, according to the report.

The employee entered the woman’s room at about 11am only for the woman to put the knife to the staff member’s neck.

The woman was from neighbouring Xinxiang and told police that she was very upset because her boyfriend failed to show up as planned at the hotel.

The employee was released unharmed and the case was under further investigation.
