He proposed on a boat, she torpedoed his dreams: China's Don Juan falls flat

Not even the most extravagant, romantic or impeccably planned marriage proposal will guarantee a “yes”, as a young man in central China found.

The man in question had a motor launch towed in front of a hospital in Wuhan, Hubei province on Thursday to pop the question.

He stood in the cockpit of the boat, which was pulled by a car, holding a bouquet of flowers and a ring in his hand at around about 11am, Cnhubei.com reported.

He called the woman’s name through a loudspeaker, saying: “I love you. Please forgive me.” Minutes later, the woman, who worked at the hospital, came out.

Passers-by applauded and encouraged the woman to climb up on to the yacht, which she did, the report said.

The yacht was towed another 200 metres before they got off. The man then knelt down in front of her and offered her the bouquet and the ring.

But the woman threw the ring on the ground, turned around and went back to work.

Another member of staff at the hospital told the website that the woman used to date the man, but broke off the relationship a year ago. The man had been trying in vain to get back together.

In August, a man in Xian, Shaanxi bought oresented lychees arranged in the shape of two hearts to propose to his girlfriend, who ate one but said he was being childish and left.
