The organisers of an attempt to create the world’s biggest helping of fried rice have apologised for wasting food after it was later taken away by refuse collectors and fed to pigs, according to state-run media.
The record attempt was made in Yangzhou in the eastern province of Jiangsu last Friday, China National Radio reported.
The city is the home of Yeung Chow-style fried rice and chefs cooked up 4,192 kg of the dish, according to the report.

The stunt was carried as part of commemorations to mark the 2,500th anniversary of the construction of the city, the report said.

But the organisers were heavily criticised after the food was immediately sent to a pig sty, later prompting an apology.
