A karaoke bar waiter from Beijing has been fined after he forced a train to stop while he was taking a selfie on a railway track, a newspaper reported.

The 19-year-old tied his mobile phone to a metre-long piece of wood and put it on the track with a 10-second time delay to take pictures, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

He fled and took his mobile phone with him when he saw a train coming, but left the piece of the wood on the line, the report said.
