The man flew into a rage after the cleaner asked him to move his car off a pile of rubbish she had collected by the side of the road in Zhijiang city in Hubei province, local police said.
The attacker, surnamed Wang and aged 48, turned himself over to the authorities on Thursday afternoon after the video was posted online. The police said he confessed to the assault.
The video was filmed by a bystander and published by news site Thepaper.cn. It begins by showing Wang and the woman already in the middle of an altercation. She is bent over and about to collapse when he swings his arm over his head and slams it down on top of her.
She staggers back and he kicks her hard in the chest, sending her to the ground. When he rushes at her again, another bystander runs forward to hold him back.
The cleaner gets up as the bystander keeps the man away and a second person approaches to help. The attacker is pushed back into his car, and he drives off but suddenly stops, leaps out and rushes at her again.
Fortunately a small crowd had gathered and they intercept him. They herd him back into his car and he finally drives off.
According to the news report, the cleaner called the police and was sent to the hospital, where she was in stable condition. The Yichang Public Security Bureau, which overseas Zhijiang, is carrying out the investigation.
