Thousands of ducks killed after truck catches fire in southern China

Nearly 2,000 ducks were killed when a truck caught fire in southern China, according to a newspaper report.

A driver said they were transporting the birds from Guangdong to Fujian province when smoke started billowing from the vehicle, the Guangdong Daily reported.

The two drivers managed to get out of the truck in Foshan. About 30 birds survived the blaze, according to the report.

“I didn’t have time to put out the fire so I escaped from the truck with the other driver,” one man was quoted as saying.

He said he attempted to unload the ducks, but was stopped by the heavy smoke.

The fire caused about 300,000 yuan (HK$360,000) in damage to the livestock and truck, the report said.
