Latest travel figures provided by the Japan Tourism Agency show that the number of trips made by Chinese tourists to Japan in the first 10 months of 2015 has exceeded four million - double the number of trips by mainlanders to the country over the same period last year.

Mainland online news portal Thepaper.cn quoted Japanese media as saying that one Japanese company had even made dolls inspired by Chinese shoppers, which have been widely discussed on social media.

Tourism experts say that mainland tourists could end up spending more than 75 billion yuan (HK$90 billion) in Japan this year.

The latest figures show that between July and September, Chinese tourists spent on average 14,870 yuan per person in Japan.

The growing number of Chinese tourists to Japan could also have helped to revive the fortunes of the loss-making Shizuoka airport, located about 175 km from Tokyo.

The airport caters to mainland airlines, including China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines which fly to mainland cities including Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Nanning, Xian and Xiamen.

Mainland travel agencies have also been benefited as many claim that there is no more low-season for tourism in Japan.
