A five-year-old boy from eastern China was left home alone and was later found wandering the streets, according to a news website.

The boy was spotted crying while trying to cross a busy road in Nanchang in Jiangxi province on Tuesday morning by a passer-by who came to his aid, Jxnews.com.cn reported.

His mother had left home in the morning without checking her son because her husband usually took him to school, but he was away on a business trip.

The boy woke up and went to nursery school on his own, but it was shut and he got lost trying to find his way home, the report said.

A passer-by helped him call his mother, who rushed to fetch her son about 30 minutes later.
