A pet dog in western China that had its left front leg amputated five years ago can now walk on its hind limbs for up to a kilometre, according to a newspaper report.

Barbie, a poodle from Chengdu in Sichuan province, had a leg removed after she was hit by a motorcycle, the West China City Daily said.

She could barely move following surgery due to the severe injury, but six months later Barbie’s owner found her struggling to get up on her two hind legs.

After a few month’s effort and training, she made it.

The owner said the family was proud of Barbie, aged nine, because she was now getting old but could still walk a long distance by herself on her daily stroll through the city streets.
