A new gaming association, which will be formally announced tomorrow in Macau, is launching an app that aims to provide the latest and most relevant daily news about the gambling industry, with a special focus on the junkets’ operations.
The app is available for free, but those interested will need to fill a form and submit it for approval.
There are currently 141 licensed VIP gaming promoters in Macau - also known as junkets -, less 23 per cent than in January last year.
Charlie Choi, who ran the controversial “name and shame” website 99world - which gathered information about gambling debtors and the amounts they owed -, is one of the founding members of the new association. His partner, managing director Antonio Hoo, told the Post that they are going to “to promote the healthy growth of the industry,” noting that the app has nothing to do with the previous website.
Choi was sentenced last year to six months in prison, suspended for two years, for running the controversial website.
“Macau Gaming Information Association is a platform which connects global gaming partners... Our goal is to support Macau’s gaming industry,” Hoo said.
