Woman relative of dead patient attacks five medical staff in Chinese hospital

A woman relative of a patient who died in a hospital in Southern China despite extensive efforts to save his life attacked and injured five medical staff, including a doctor who suffered concussion, local meida reported on Thursday.

On Friday, Wang Zhang, 76, suffered a major heart attack while accompanying his wife to an outpatient clinic at Hainan General Hospital in Haikou, according to the Hainan Daily.

Wang was rushed to an intensive care unit but doctors could not save him and he died that night.

On Tuesday morning, four of Wang’s relatives from Shanghai arrived at the hospital’s emergency department, where a scuffle broke out with doctors and nurses.

Surveillance footage showed a woman in a yellow coat beating and chasing a doctor. Police were called to stop the fight.
