Huge python found by troops on Hong Kong-mainland border

A python nearly five metres long and weighing about 25 kg has been found on the mainland side of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen border, according to a newspaper report.

The snake was discovered resting in shade beneath a tree by soldiers patrolling in an restricted area on Tuesday, the Yangcheng Evening News said.

The python was taken by the troops to their military camp.

After cleaning and feeding the animal it was handed over to a wildlife animal protection centre, the report said.

Burmese pythons are regularly spotted in Hong Kong and can grow up to six metres long.
